Jeff Lawrence recently shared his thoughts on A Journey Towards Light:

"This is a love story. A story of hope. It confronts the reader with profound questions: How deep is my courage? My faith? My love? The story centers on a remarkable woman – though when we meet Rita, she could be any one of us. She experiences a personal tragedy of ghastly proportions. As I read, I found myself asking the questions about my courage, faith and love.

I once heard God never gives us more than we can handle. Rita is surely tested more than I believe I could handle. But as her father says to her, “When life offers unanswerable questions, it is not a sign of weakness to embrace the uncertainty. Instead, it is an act of resilience. Accepting what you cannot control can bring a kind of peace – a sanctuary where you rest your weary heart and find strength to thrive.” That sentence struck me to my core.

As I measured myself against Rita, and her amazing husband Sanad, I concluded these people were stronger in their faith and love than I have ever been. Could I get there? Not so sure. Certainly, a goal worthy of pursuit. Lina spins this remarkable tale in such a spell-binding manner I felt like Rita and Sanad became part of my life while their story unfolded in front of me. The questions it stirred in me woke me up, spurred me to break some bad habits and start a few new ones. I can hardly wait for Lina’s next book and the awakening in me it will surely bring."

Reading Jeff’s review is deeply moving and profoundly humbling. When writing A Journey Towards Light, I hoped to tell a story that would not only touch readers emotionally but also encourage reflection on the deeper questions of faith, courage, love, and resilience. Knowing that Rita and Sanad’s journey inspired such personal introspection means more to me than I can express. Stories have a unique power to help us examine our own lives, and hearing that the book encouraged Jeff to reflect on his beliefs, habits, and aspirations is incredibly rewarding. I am especially touched that the words spoken by Rita’s father resonated so strongly, as they embody one of the central messages of the story: finding strength and peace in the face of uncertainty. To know that these characters felt real enough to become part of a reader’s life for a time is one of the greatest compliments an author can receive. I am sincerely grateful to Jeff for his thoughtful and heartfelt review, and honoured that A Journey Towards Light became part of his own journey of reflection and growth.
